Dating in your 40's and 50's can be a daunting prospect if you have been single for a long time and trust me, I've been single so long that I've forgotten what the dating scene is like. It can seem overwhelming to jump back into the dating scene after so many years. The good news is that there are a lot of resources out there to help make the process easier. Here are some tips to help you get started:
Take a look at online dating sites
Online dating has become increasingly popular over the years, and it can be a great way to meet someone who is compatible with you. Look for sites that cater to people in your age group and be sure to read the reviews to make sure the site is reputable. Two dating sites that are great for women over 40 are Bumble and eHarmony. Two of my friends met their current spouses through eHarmony. Bumble is a dating site founded by Whitney Wolfe how was co-founder of Tinder. I know. The premise of this dating site is that it allows women to take control over the online dating experience. If you aren't so forward and prefer not to make the first move, then perhaps eHarmony may be more of your speed, after all it is touted as the dating site for singles looking for love!
Join a local meetup group
Meetup groups are great for meeting new people with similar interests. You can join a group for singles, or one that focuses on a hobby or interest you are passionate about. Meetup is a social media platform for hosting and organizing virtual and in person gatherings for people with similar interests.
Attend local events
Look for events in your area that are specifically geared towards singles in your age group. This can be a great way to meet people in a low-pressure environment. Facebook is a great place to find local events happening in your town. Get dressed up, go with some friends or maybe on a solo date on your own sans wingwoman. Going out on your own may be another way to connect with other singles.
Consider a dating coach
A dating coach can help you get the most out of your dating experience by providing personalized advice and guidance. This is a new concept for me. It reminds me of the movie Hitch but I'm open to the idea that sometimes we may need a little polishing to get back in the dating scene, especially if you've had a dry dating season.
Don't be afraid to ask for help
Don't be afraid to ask your friends and family for help. They can provide support and advice throughout the process. They may even be able to set you up with someone they know who is single. I've been on several blind dates this way, and although none of these dates have panned out into serious relationships, it's a great opportunity to get out there.
Dating in your 40's and 50's can be a daunting prospect, but with the right resources, it can also be a fun and rewarding experience. Take your time and don't be afraid to put yourself out there. You never know what you might find!
Love,
